[edit]I recently visited the area for 3 days to get an idea of what the area was like. Here are a couple highlights:
- A rural feel with a cost of living generaly lower from most major cities.
- Public schools seems questionable from what I have read /Private seems like a better choice
- Property and homes range from modest mobile homes without skirts to large beutiful newer homes, in some cases they are close to one another.
- Lake Hartwell is controled by the Corp of engineers and feeds a hydro elec dam. Water level can change drastically. Most lake front homes have corp controled poperty lines.
- Home depot, Applebees, a mall, and a West Marine store. Most everything you'll need from common stores is there.
- Culture, Art, and theater seem to be on the back burner to fishing and outdoor activities.
- downtown area seems to have had it challenges with some business closed up.
- Surprisngly ethinically diverse. Seems to have 60/40 split of White and Black.
I've lived close to Anderson... It seems all businesses are compacting (while at the same time, moving away from the old downtown area) into one strip that runs directly into Clemson. Also, whoever wrote the above statement is correct about contrasting properties being close together (In the downtown area around Kinley Park, it's like in los angeles in the sense that on one row, it's a slum but in the next, there are elegant townhouses.)Other than that, it has a quaint small-town feel to it. --Wallaby 04:46, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
I must challenge, as a recent product of Anderson School District 5, the notion of the above poster in questioning the worth of the public schools in Anderson. The high schools, particularly T L Hanna High School, have tremendous resources and fantastic educators, as evidenced, for example, by our AP test results, which are far above the state and national averages in terms of passing rates on the individual examinations. Public schools in Anderson also have far more resources than the few private schools in the area.--XRedcomet 02:52, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
Public education in South Carolina has been a sore spot indeed for a long time, but the public schools in Anderson seem to consistently rate higher than those in neighboring counties. I know that there are 'problem' schools, but I guess that's the same everywhere. T.L. Hanna is a great example of one of the better ones, as was cited above. Another is Wren High School, which seems to win all kinds of awards for academics. I live in Anderson County, but did not attend school here.Kf4mgz 06:59, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Freedom-weekend-aloft-anderson.jpg
[edit]Image:Freedom-weekend-aloft-anderson.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

63.12% European American?, White doesn't always mean European
[edit]As a matter of fact, my brother in law is Egyptian, and I'm not about to deny the fact he's White. The US Census defines any persons with ancestry from Europe, the Middle East, or Northern Africa, as being White. Just because someone's not socially considered White doesn't mean they're not White, take almost half of all Hispanics for instance, whom Identified as being "White". Iamanadam (talk) 23:37, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- "White" is indeed the correct term here, and is used by every other city article that I randomly sampled. Thanks for making the change! Darkspots (talk) 23:45, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
List of Schools
[edit]I feel that we should probably move the list of schools into a separate article (titled, for example, List of schools in Anderson County, South Carolina) - it takes up far too much space in this article. XRedcomet (talk) 01:49, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
- Probably the best thing to do is create a Anderson School District Five article that those schools could be listed in. DoubleBlue (Talk) 01:51, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Crime
[edit]The following information was added by an editor who also deleted a large chunk. This additional info needs a slight re-write, and also needs checking in view of the fact that the anon editor has had previous edits reverted. Can anyone check? Dbfirs 07:18, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Information for Crime section:
Anderson's homicide rate increased 79% in 2005 but has since fallen. In 2005 there were 39 homicides recorded, and in 2004 there were 49 homicides recorded. in 2006 there were 56 homicides recorded. in 2007 there were 29 homicides recorded a record low in 10 years.
If this is true, then it could be included, but is it useful information?
merger from Concord Elementary School
[edit]There has been a general consensus for some time that elementary or primary schools are generally not notable enough for their own articles, and I don't see any compelling reason to make an exception here. --Beeblebrox (talk) 21:08, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- Done More or less. Since no reliable sources were cited, I haven't actually merged any content as it was all rather crufty details about when the school got air conditioning and so forth, but it has been redirected here. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:36, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
- Apparently, the link from McCracken County Public Schools to Concord Elementary School redirected me to this article here. Perhaps, Concord Elementary School ought to be made a disambiguation page with links to Concord Elementary School (Kentucky and Concord Elementary School (South Carolina), with latter redirecting readers here. For Kentucky version, I'd probably leave it red link (meaning article is not created yet) for now. --Legion (talk) 21:13, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
