Post it here if you disagree with a percentage of Hindus in a country. OneGuy 02:27, 13 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Also there has been a mistake in the data with UAE. It is given that Hindus are 20% of the population. A reference has also been given. But in the reference itself, it is mentioned that Hindus are only 20% of the FOREIGN population. Meaning it could be only some 0.01% or something closer to this value. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.139.156.167 (talk) 11:06, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
China certainly doesn't have 20% of its population as Hindu. Is this the only entry on the table that's wrong? 70.187.178.28 (talk) 15:42, 15 December 2010 (UTC)AtheistGuy[reply]

Top 25 table

[edit]

the top 25 table is not consistent. while it says the percentage of hindus in Indonesia is 7% in the population wise list, the top 25 list according to percentage of total population puts the Indonesian figure at 1.81%. the total hindu population in indonesia is also inconsistent. which one is right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rohanr84 (talkcontribs) 05:29, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hinduism in the United States of America

[edit]

I am skeptical of the population figure for Hinduism in United States. I had seen many sources that put the Indian population in U.S. at about 1.6 million. It is highly unlikely that 1,478,670 or about 93 % of this population is Hindu. Adherents.com put the Hindu population in U.S. at 910,000, which seems about right. http://www.adherents.com/largecom/com_hindu.html .

The adherents.com figure is from 1997. The population of Indians in America has increased by somewhere over 80% over the decade, primarily through emigration. Also, not all Hindus in the United States of America are classified as Indian American. There are communities of Nepalis, Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis, and Indo-Caribbean Americans all of whom have Hindu components, in addition to a number of converts especially to the Hare Krishna movement.

Hinduism in Turkey

[edit]

This page contains the exact same text as the Hinduism in Arab States article. Turkey is not an Arab state. Turkey is, believe it or not, a Turkic state. Simple enough, isn't it?

Andy 04:35, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit]

I saw someone writing there are only 1,600,000 East Indians (Indian Americans) in USA. As of 2005 there are an estimated 2,000,000 of them in USA. The earlier figure (1.687 million is solely derived from 2000 census and is not valid now. In addition to the Asian Indians, there are also Guyannese Esat Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis, Indonesian Balinese, Nepalis.etc who are Hindus but not included in the census as Asian Indian. So I think your figure of 1.478 million is pretty accurate.

[edit]

Can anyone tell me how to expand this article? I mean which sections need expansion...

Where exactly are you getting your percentages?

[edit]

Sometime ago, I used the percentages here quoted for Iran for the article Hinduism in Iran. It apparently says .1% (or 68,017 people) of the population. I vaguely remember checking this percentage, but I do not recall where exactly in the 2004 report does it state this percentage. If anyone would be so kind as to show me where exactly I can find the quote of .1%, I would appreciate it. Siyavash 20:36, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The percentage of Hindus in Bangladesh seems a little high, it lies somewhere around 11-12%.

Final graph.

[edit]

The previous post mentions being able to understand the final graph. However, if the left column is by population, India should be first and Nepal second. Then, the right column would be Nepal first and India second, with the populations adjusted accordingly. I don't know how to edit a graph like this, but it seems wrong to me. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bruske (talkcontribs) 15:37, 13 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Something's wrong with the table. The last row says that the world population of Hindus is over 6.6 billion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hokie Tech (talkcontribs) 16:51, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some suggestion

[edit]

Some suggestions!

[edit]

Hi everyone!

I am managing the articles of Buddhism by country (with User:Bikeable);List of religious populations and a little of Christianity by country (with User:Vexorg) and maybe I hope in near future,I can contribute for projects of another religions as soon as possible!

The first;I think we need to update new census of July 2007 from source from http://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/ipc/idbrank.pl which is I think is the most exact! And total population of the World as July 1,2007 is 6,671,226,000.I made it for Buddhism first!

The second;I think we should make the new style for all article of any religious populations by country (Buddhism by country; Islam by country; Hinduism by country) just like Christianity by country did with minimum percentage and maximum percentage from many sources (government,CIA,etc...).But in my mind and mostly people we all know the populations of Christianity, Islam, Judaism or Hinduism could estimate nearly right but with Buddhism,it is very HARD!Some sxample:

  1. Christianity in France (51%-85%), Belgium (38-84%),etc...
  2. Buddhism in China (21.3%-80%), South Korea (27-48%),etc...

How do you think about my suggestions?

And I want to invite User:Vexorg (Christianity), User:Opticals and User:OsamaKBOT (Islam), I with Clay Collier and User:Bikeable (Buddhism);etc...to found "The Union of Wiki Project Religions".So I want to hear your opinions and replies about that!

Contact me about that on my talk page:

Thank so much!God bless all of you! Angelo De La Paz 09:22, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing because it lists more than one country within each of the 25 ranks. Please, if they are actually two charts please separate them and eyplain what is what.

Hindus in Indonesia

Table doesn't sort

[edit]

I'm not good enough with the Wikipedia table functions to fix it, and there seem to be not-inconsiderable data issues as well. The table of populations will not sort properly--higher and lower values are interchanged when one attempts to use the sort function at the table header. I'd suspect a contributing factor is the interchanging use of commas and periods to indicate decimal places for some values, but unless a few such errors can upset the whole table, I think there's a deeper problem. CrashCart9 (talk) 20:20, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Same problem here. I guess it's because of the mix of different formats for the numerical values. Some figures use a comma yet others use a decimal point. To be consistent with other language versions and with scientific journals and magazines which are gradually changing to use the point as a separator for large numbers there should be a wiki policy making the use of them obligatory - why not, there seems to be a policy for fucking everything on Wikipedia nowadays.--Xania talk 01:28, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Percentages of Hindus in Populations of Various Countries Grossly Miscalculated

[edit]

Calculations for this table are horribly sloppy; I corrected 2 glaring errors; percentage of Hindus in US was listed as 5% when the raw figures of approx 1.4 Million US-Hindus yields a percentage of 0.55% for a total US population of 270 Million. Similarly the percentage of the Pakistani Hindu population was listed as 5.8% a ridiculous figure given that the raw numbers list the number of Pakistani Hindus at only 1.4 Million out a total population of 166 Million (International Development Bank population figure for pakistan); 1.4 Million/166 Million yields a population percentage of only 1.49% (not surprising as most of Pakistan's Hindu population was decimated and ethnically cleansed during partition). Perhaps somebody should use a calculator to fix-up the percentages of other countries where there are glaring errors. 24.200.55.244 (talk) 21:06, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect data

[edit]

I have seen many sources, and the following countries are having problems: Nepal: I have seen sources saying that there are 23 million hindus in Nepal Bangladesh: 16% of their population is estimated to be hindu, and that is not only 10.5 million Indonesia: The Island of Bali is of 3.4 million people, and 97% of them are hindu, so the total population has to be over 3 million South Africa: there are 3 million indians there, and it is safe to say that there are at least 1 million hindus, but the article says 156,973 Trinidad and Tobago: They are approximately 25% hindu and that cannot be only 21000 Guyana: In the table above, it says that they are from 28.3% hindu to 33% Singapore: It says that 2.2 million are hindu and that thats only 5% while singapore is an island of 5 million Neel Lahiri (talk) 03:34, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hinduism in pakistan

[edit]

There was 4.4 million hindus (2.14% of total population of pakistan) in 2017.

There are nearly 8 million hindus in pakistan in 2020 according to Pakistani Hindu Council. 176.72.81.161 (talk) 18:57, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Can we standardize the percentages in the table?

[edit]

I suggest we make the following changes:

  • Calculate percentages as Hindu Total divided by Total Population times 100 (if this isn't already the case)
  • Move all citations to the Hindu Total
  • Add census years where available
  • Round all percentages to 2 decimal places
