Caesar salad is not Mexican
[edit]The ingredients aren't Mexican. Even if a foreign chef invented it in a Tijuana hotel it still doesn't qualify. The guy who invented it WASN'T MEXICAN as you can clearly see. You need examples? Ok. Salsa music WAS STARTED IN New York city by Puerto Rican & Cubano musicians in a club. Does that mean some American farmers guy from Missouri or Arkansas can lay claim to "Salsa music" being his own because of a technicality? After all Salsa music started in US jurisdiction. Nobody calls it regular American music like jazz blues or country western. You can't just claim a thing without any context. 76.167.193.57 (talk) 20:49, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- Am I missing something? The article doesn't appear to call it Mexican anywhere - what's the problem? Girth Summit (blether) 21:13, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- The infobox and the article text (correctly) identify the place of origin as Tijuana, but I also don't see anywhere it is claimed the dish is Mexican food. Beeblebrox (talk) 22:03, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- Correct, it does not. Tijuana is technically part of México, not the US. It can be confusing for some people but it does not fall under US federal jurisdiction but does under jurisdicción federal Mexicana.

- As mentioned below, labelling Caesar's salad as a part of Mexican cuisine means implying a certain beet soup comes from New York's Borscht Belt. Nevertheless, the mild "place of origin:" line in place of bolder "country:" was a good, productive, ultimately conflict-resolving move. 2A00:1FA0:345:6B83:17B3:F832:E14F:D6CD (talk) 12:02, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- The field just says "place of origin", as in where it was invented, not the anything to do with the ingredients or nationality of its inventor. NicolinoChess31415926 (talk) 00:44, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
- I disagree with future claims the salad belongs to Mexican cuisine. The logic behind "Caesar's salad is Mexican" consensus means borscht should, all of a sudden, be labelled as a dish originating from "Borscht Belt, New York, NY, USA (insert star-spangled banner here)". 2A00:1FA0:345:6B83:17B3:F832:E14F:D6CD (talk) 11:57, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

Just a Heads Up
[edit]Some a-little-more-than-unknown-but-not-quite-world-famous Youtuber recently did a video going in depth in to the history of this article and the "war" and really doubled down on humor and exaggeration. Might want to brace for future bush wars in the near future... :D Jersey John (talk) 12:36, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yea no, I have come across some other pages where the controversy and editing duration were not as lengthy as this one. However, despite this, they continue to make biased claims, cite in-source or unreliable sources, and outright accuse the main character of the page's topic with some crimes with no evidences at all. It is safe to say that, things are fun when you keep it short and keep it effective. But when you drag for so long and downright hilariously dumb reasons. You are just a bunch of bitter folks.
- It is highly beneficial if you are able to contribute and dedicate time to conducting research, and we strongly encourage this behavior. The early edits on this page, regardless of their accuracy, clearly demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm. But please, refrain from doing stuffs like this. The reason people turn to Wikipedia is to search for information, rather than treating it like a chalkboard and draw nonsense on it.
- Man, I talk so much like always. Anyway, peace. 2405:4802:B2FB:8D90:C0BD:A8F0:F714:EE9B (talk) 05:48, 11 February 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, thanks to this very youtuber, I have realized something about my recurrent topic - Borscht. 81.89.66.133 (talk) 08:21, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- The video actually released back in 2022, assuming we're talking about this. It just got popular recently I think. The article has recently been WP:ECP protected until the end of the year, so I doubt there will be much disruption any time soon. ObserveOwl (chit-chat • my doings) 10:24, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah the youtube algorithm works in weird wonderous ways. Anyway, I could really use some Caesar Salad rn. LegalSmeagolian (talk) 23:51, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Why is this extended protected? Thank you. A Proud Alabamian (talk) 23:46, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- Apparently there was a big edit war over the origin of the Caesar salad. It happened before I joined Wikipedia but that's the gist of it - OpalYosutebito (talk) 00:33, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! I’m new to Wikipedia, as well. A Proud Alabamian (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 00:35, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- I think it’s quite funny how long it went on for. I just learned about this lol maybe it needs an article of its own. Very interesting topic. Finallyunbanneditsbeentwoyears (talk) 08:43, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

Change place of origin from Mexico to Italy. 172.250.239.208 (talk) 16:04, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but it was made in Mexico. Although it was made by an Italian immigrant, it was created in Mexico. Gaismagorm (talk) 19:53, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- Not done, changing this word in the infobox would contradict the current body text of the article, which describes Cardini inventing it while working in Mexico. --Belbury (talk) 08:12, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
