This article gives a nice summary, but requires more detail. 24630 00:42, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to add sone Chinese translations of popular western comic heros such as:

Batman = "Bat-xia" Spiderman = "spider-xia" Sgfhk321 04:57, 9 November 2004 (UTC)[reply]

typo?

[edit]

Is the phrase "to serve social unfairness or injustice" correct? It seems to counter the tone of the rest of the article. I hesitate to edit it myself as it is the topic sentence. Osprey 19:40, 2 January 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That's because the info in this article is not only confusing but incorrect. The whole thing needs revision and clarification. For example, the range of characters within pugilistic world of Wulin/Jianghu, including the Xia, is quite broad. To compare them ALL to thieves like Robin Hood is of course ridiculous. As far as comparisons to Batman and Superman, I don't even know where to begin...
A good example can be found in Star Wars. Whether good (members of the Jedi Order) or bad (Sith Lords), all are Jedi. Their belief in and practice of the ways of 'the force' is what binds them and distinguishes them from the vast majority of others who do not. It's similar with the Xia. Many may belong to 'good' sects/clans/schools/whatever, 'neutral' or even 'bad'. Some may not belong to one at all. But being Xia still binds them. Depending on the author or filmmaker, a code of conduct and even 'brotherhood' connects all xia -- policemen and thieves -- within Jiang Hu. The spectrum is quite broad and goes well beyond just thieves. In fact, by far most are not.
Though not a perfect comparison, looking at it this way may help for those unfamiliar with wuxia fiction:
Xia = Jedi, including the Sith
I'm by no means an expert on this topic, though I do enjoy watching a great many wuxia films and TV series and reading the works of both Jin Yong and Gu Long. But maybe I can find the time to clean up this article a bit. Darnold01 18:30, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow

[edit]

The only thing that chivalry has in common with Xiá is the moral code and the ideology, a Xiá doesn't always have a boss.

Merge

[edit]

I added a merge tag to this page some months back. If no one objects, I intend to follow through with this. However, since a large portion of the page is uncited or unnecessary commentary, little of it can be used in the youxia page. Despite this, I will post the bits I don't use on the talk page in the hopes that future editors will be able to provide sources for the material. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 12:56, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Last chance for objections. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 08:04, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Revertion of redirection to Youxia

[edit]

I have reverted the redirection to Youxia because the latter and Xia are not interchangeable terms. This redirection may cause confusion, as some pages link Xia as a similar class in Chinese history as knight was in Europe. This may lead some people to think that all Chinese knights were knight-errants. I have also added some links that I found that supply a source for most, if not all the text.

I fail to see how they are not interchangeable terms. Both describe a martial-oriented person who uses their skills to uphold justice. Much of the information in both articles is almost exactly the same. However, the major difference is that Youxia has verifiable sources. The two websites that you cited are unreliable. The first one does not cite any sources of it's own and so its content is unverifiable. The second is a wiki mirror of an older version of this page. In essence, it is like listing another wikipedia page as a source, which is a common mistake made by new users. I still intend on contacting an admin in the future, but I hope we can work this out in the meantime. I'll give you time to try to find better sources and to add more material to the page that differentiates it from Youxia. But if you are just reverting for reverting sake with no intentions of expanding the article, then one-on-one discussion is useless. I'm erasing the sources now and adding a citation tag at the top of the article. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 21:56, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Its been almost a week now and you have not made any changes (verifiable sources, new material, etc.) to the page. I'll give you a few more days before I contact an admin. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 02:21, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I changed it back, once more. If you are to redirect it to youxia at least make a section refering to xia specificaly, as to clear out that not all Chinese knights were knight-errants. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.200.222.22 (talk) 06:14, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
