User talk:Davelewis
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- If you haven't already, please add your name to the new user log to let others know a little about yourself.
- Read the Tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the Sandbox.
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
Jrdioko
P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
Hi. Thanks for your improvements to this article. I note that in your comment you said also there is a slight pov over kevin warwick being 'probably the most well known'. I changed the words to this, because before it just said including kevin warwick which seemed to me to be even more pov (Kevin Warwick is the only member of staff worthy of mention). If you can think of a more npov way of putting it, please feel free. On the other hand I suspect we need more names. -- Chris j wood 12:08, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I expanded the section on people in the UWB article and made it into a section (Famous people) which you shortly afterwards renamed to Alumni. Just thought I'd point out that 4 of the people in there are not alumni of the uni--please read sections before renaming them--so I've changed it back. Maybe I should make an alumni sub-section in there sometime though.

Cardiff
[edit]Hi there. I noticed that you removed the note that the Bluebirds play in the English league from the Cardiff article. I didn't put it in myself, but you could argue that it is noteworthy (or at least quirky) that a Welsh team plays in the English league. It's different with the other sports because they are British leagues. --Dave63 07:31, 20 May 2005 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:St_pats.jpeg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:St_pats.jpeg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Carnildo or ask for help at Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. Thank you.
Duplicate images uploaded
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Reading University Students' Union Logo.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you uploaded the same image twice: as Image:Reading University Students' Union Logo.jpg and also as Image:RUSU logo small.jpg. The latter copy of the file has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.
This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and remember exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 00:32, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
A tag has been placed on Unions 94, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you feel that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. — coelacan — 00:32, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Reading University Students' Union Logo.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Reading University Students' Union Logo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. TheIslander 20:03, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- Still no rationale - take a look at Wikipedia:Non-free media rationale guideline to see what a rationale includes. I won't bother re-adding the tag, as it's clear you intend to sort this properly. TheIslander 23:28, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Reading University Students' Union Logo.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Reading University Students' Union Logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:32, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Davelewis! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 709 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
- Gordon Marshall - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
