McQueen
[edit]Does the character Mr. Mcqueen sing at all? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.184.187.200 (talk) 02:36, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Yes, he has about 2 solo lines during the song Mr. Cladwell and otherwise sings as part of the UGC chorus. FinalWish (talk) 00:39, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Redirects
[edit]I can see this page has A LOT of redirects going to it. Is it really necessary with that many? Wouldn't Urinetown (musical) be enough? And, do all the redirects have any significant effect on the Wiki-engine performance? --Vikingstad 23:19, May 20, 2004 (UTC)
- Redirects are necessary to prevent duplicate articles on subjects that are likely to be referenced in different ways. Their creation is encouraged: redirects have no effect on performance. In this case, the show is most often referred to as Urinetown, but was Tony nominated as Urinetown The Musical. Given that Urinetown the Musical and Urinetown The Musical would be distinct wiki articles, it's better to head them off at the pass. And given that people frequently add a colon (Urinetown: the Musical) or other punctuation (Urinetown, the Musical!), it's better to head them off as well. - Nunh-huh 23:30, 20 May 2004 (UTC)
Spoilers
[edit]I see that the synopsis has the Spoiler warning, even though there really aren't any spoilers in the plot synopsis. This sounds like something you'd find on the back of the DVD box. Does anybody want to write a summary of the story that actually includes spoilers about the ending?
- I agree. My understanding of the play is very basic, having only seen a high school performance knock-off, but I was able to add in a few things. But yes, I think that the spoilers should be put in — after all, we do warn the reader. --HereToHelp (talk) 21:46, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
- We've got spoilers now! I've done my best to add a detailed (and hopefully at least mildly entertaining) plot synopsis for the show. I've added a list of characters and a mention of all the musical numbers in the piece as well. --jmr39 22 February 2006
Knockoff
[edit]I've seen Urinetown in swedish in Turku Swedish Theatre (Finland), and they gave us a paper with english spoiler. It was exactly the same text as in this article! (with some cuts and wihout any formatting) I guess they copied from wikipedia without citation, and not the contrary (sure?). I think the author of this spoiler should contact them and ask for a citation! [1]
- The whole point of wikipedia being GFDL is exactly so that people can do that. Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 07:33, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
High School Productions
[edit]Is this section really necessary? Most of them aren't cited... and it seems unencyclopedic anyway... EDIT: that was me.... Isquitenice 17:49, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Character section
[edit]Edited and simplified. I also moved the history section up a bit and took out the character doubles section; it was unnecessary. I'd really like to cut the plot synopsis down, but I've actually never watched the musical before, though I really want to xD From watching clips on YouTube, I can tell it's a great one. .onion 03:46, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
I was IN the musical, I know everything about it. I revised the character section. While I agree that it shouldn't be too detailed, I felt it necessary to discuss the significance of the characters.....let me put it this way, no character should ever be "simplified".

Parodies
[edit]The opening paragraphs briefly mention that this musical parodies some well-known musicals, but it only listed Les Miserables as an example. I know now that Les Mis is alluded to in the Act 1 Finale, but... are there any other allusions anywhere else in the musical? If there are enough of them, and if they are interesting enough, would someone please list them, because that particular information adds more to this show's satiric personality. Thanks! .onion 09:01, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- 'West Side Story', 'Fiddler on the Roof', 'The Threepenny Opera' are three that are mentioned elsewhere as objects of parody. I'm not sure if any glancing nod to a previous musical is being counted--I haven't seen any of those three earlier musicals all the way through, thought the Kurt Weill / Bertolt Brecht influence on Urinetown is impossible to miss if you know anything about Weill & Brecht. Bruce Weber's New York Times review from May, 2001 (when the show was off-Broadway) has this passage: "And he probably had a hand, along with John Carrafa, the choreographer, in arranging stage tableaus like the hilarious send-up of the beggars' choruses from Les Misérables. Mr. Carrafa, whose work is inspired throughout, creates a sterling sequence in Snuff the Girl, a jangly song about bloodthirsty vengeance that morphs into an insouciant production number. In it, the dancers seemingly run through the entire history of theatrical choreography, blithely quoting Jerome Robbins, Bob Fosse, Michael Bennett and others. Theater history buffs will enjoy competing to identify the references." -- Neil H.
Musical Theatre Project
[edit]Have rated this start but with afew more sections of good information should get it up to a B.
Controversy
[edit]I'm not familiar with this musical so I can't contribute much, but it would be good if someone can add information about the recent "plagiarism" controversy surrounding the Chicago production. see article Annie D (talk) 00:49, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
name
[edit]I fixed the name in the first paragraph and moved the page to a new location at "Urinetown: The Musical", which is the real name of the show. The name is actually very important to the story of the show itself. Kineticturtle 19:58, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Plot summary
[edit]The plot summary has been tagged as overlong since last July, but at present it seems to me just the right length. I've removed the tag. --Tony Sidaway 07:19, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Urinetownmisty2.jpg
[edit]Image:Urinetownmisty2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Character list
[edit]Per the guidelines for musical theatre (WP:MT): "Long, detailed descriptions of characters are not needed (unless necessary to convey the story-line). Rather at the first mention of an important character in the Synopsis, some effort should be made to convey the personality or characteristics of the character. If a story is complex, the characters confusing, then a list of principal characters may be given."
I have therefore deleted descriptions of minor characters.Flami72 (talk) 20:33, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
