Eudonia lineola Fixed.Sentences now. Have to do the same for several others. Thanks for the prompt and best regards. Notafly (talk) 08:19, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:05, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Eudonia mercurella Translated from German. Added the tag to refs . Again thanks Notafly (talk) 08:33, 25 November 2024 (UTC) @Notafly: That was insufficient. That should have been your edit summary when you did the translation. That's only one aspect: linking your translation to the other wiki's authors. The other aspect is that of verification: all assertions of facts need to be tied to a reference that is cited to verify those facts. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:18, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ongoing. Have to go to the library though so please bear with me. I need to fix a lot of edits for other micros in similar fashion.Part of the problem is that hardcopy authors give only general references to save on excess.Just a part Regards Notafly (talk) 18:50, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kuwavaatakdectes

[edit]

Hi UtherSRG,

What is the reason for removing my comments on the etymology of Kuwavaatakdecteson the Kuwavaatakdectes page? It is relevant for the taxonomy section, and the etymology of Oradectes and Kuwavaatakdectes is mentioned in Kissel (2010) and Ponstein et al. (2024) respectively. Or would I need to repeat the citation at the end of each line? Ponsdedons (talk) 16:48, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you need to indicate where the assertion comes from. Please see WP:V, one of our strongest policies. - UtherSRG (talk) 19:13, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from August899 (02:09, 30 November 2024)

[edit]

Hi Hi Mentor, Happy Holidays. Could you please provide me with a few editing skills to make my practice article publishable as an article? Thanks. --August899 (talk) 02:09, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@August899: I can not grant you skills... you have to learn them. :) If you are looking to write an article, know that creating a new article is one of the hardest things you can chose to do here. I suggest getting to know the place by finding articles related to the topic you want to write about and helping to improve them. I'll put some helpful links on your talk page, but when you are ready to writing a new article I suggest using WP:MFA. - UtherSRG (talk) 03:33, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see that you already have the helpful links, and that you are already getting your draft reviewed. Read the info the reviewers leave you in the comments and the decline notice. Every link has helpful information. - UtherSRG (talk) 03:35, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Snow leopard

Was that word already mentioned before? Why is why you reverted my edit? Eiehel (talk) 11:45, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, as I said in my edit summary. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:19, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Infobox for Tod A. Laursen

[edit]

Hi-ho, UtherSRG! Uh...Mr. Laursen has held multiple offices and he may hold more in the future. How do we put that into the infobox you requested? Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 10:02, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please see {{Infobox officeholder}}. Current and former offices are allowed. We do not gave into the crystal ball. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:49, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for that referral, but I had already read it and I don't understand how we enter the multiple offices at different insitutions he's held? Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 00:25, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please read the instructions at the infobox completely. The information you want is there. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:14, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I added quite some references on your request in the text. Reference 1 could be added at other places as well but I thought it was balanced now. I Tried to add a picture of a painting of him which is quite illustrative but I failed... Any tips how to do it? Do you think the comments on referencing could be cleared now? Many thanks for the help. Pancras Hogendoorn (talk) 10:56, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:File Upload Wizard for getting your image uploaded. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:52, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to add the painting but I am not succeeding:
Painting Paul Ernst IMG 1800
as a text under it I would like to have:
Painting of Paul Ernst at the time of his retirement as Professor of Pathology at University of Heidelberg. The picture is uploaded in wikimedia commons but how to get it in the paper?? Can you do it for me? Many thanks! Pancras Hogendoorn (talk) 15:24, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can do it yourself, now that you have uploaded the file. - UtherSRG (talk) 15:26, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried in several ways but one way or the other I do not manage. Can you do it for me please?
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Painting_Paul_Ernst_IMG_1800.jpg Pancras Hogendoorn (talk) 14:43, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have it correct above. I don't know what you want. Do you just want to change the caption? Replace the text after the last pipe with whatever text you want. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:56, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just want it placed in the wikipedia Paul Ernst (pathologist) as illustration with the caption hereunder
Painting of Paul Ernst at the time of his retirement as Professor of Pathology at University of Heidelberg.
By one way or another I do not manage to get it into the Wikipediapage so when you can help please do so! Pancras Hogendoorn (talk) 10:16, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have no interest in doing so. You were able to place the image here correctly, you can place the image on the article. If you are having trouble doing so, please tell me what the problem is. You haven't been able to explain the problem in a way that says you actually tried to do it. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:01, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I went to the Paul Ernst page and logged in then clicked on edit source and went into the text where the link to the painting would fit, then clicked in the immages and media button then an insert file possiblity appears. Then I entered https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Painting_Paul_Ernst_IMG_1800.jp in the filename window. then I have put a caption name and then safe and then it appears in read as thumb and the file name and not the picture Pancras Hogendoorn (talk) 14:51, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Don't put the full URL, just put the file name. Edit this section here and see how you put the image here. - UtherSRG (talk) 15:22, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just did another attempt according to what I have understood from you ( see the page...) but it still does not work. I entered Painting_Paul_Ernst_IMG_1800.jp You must have the feeling that I am very stupid sorry but a new hint is appreciated or maybe you can insert it... Pancras Hogendoorn (talk) 16:49, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You simply had a typo: you had .jp instead of .jpg. I have fixed it for you. Please use the "Preview" button or the "show changes" button when editting to see what you are doing. - UtherSRG (talk) 19:06, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Luzula sidebar

[edit]

Hello, I saw that you removed the link to Commons from this page with the comment that it appears in the sidebar. What sidebar are you referring to? I don't see a way to make a sidebar appear. If other people also don't see a sidebar, perhaps the link to commons should remain. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 06:59, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

screenshot of a part of the Wikipedia sidebar
@Sminthopsis84: See image. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:20, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The sidebar doesn't appear in mobile view, and as far as I am aware, there is no way to go directly from Wikipedia to Commons (or Wikispecies) in mobile view except via the templates {{Commons}} or {{Commons category}} (you can get to Commons indirectly in mobile view via Wikidata).
I would very much like to get rid of Commons/Wikispecies link templates in articles, but until there is a way to get to the sister projects in mobile view, I leave the templates in place.
Also note that Luzula was using {{Commons category}}, but the sidebar link goes to the Commons "article" rather than the category. Plantdrew (talk) 17:08, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. That list of options appears for me in the Tools menu and only there. I'm not using the mobile version. {{Commons category}} can be a more inspiring and useful link for wikipedia editors hoping to find plant images, and perhaps also for general readers; the Commons page often adds nothing to wikispecies (except for cultivars). I'd like to see both Commons entry points listed in the taxonbar template. There was some discussion in 2018 and no-doubt elsewhere. They are arguably a bit different from the other databases listed in the template, but I don't see opinions to omit them on that account. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 23:07, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
