Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Storefront, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text borrowed from web sites. For more information, take a look at our policy library. Happy editing! --Xcali 03:09, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Just to let you know, Wikipedia has certain rules around the application of categories to articles. Namely, you shouldn't file an article such as Sam the Record Man in "Companies of Canada" if it's already in "Retail companies of Canada", because "Retail companies of Canada" is already a subcategory of "Companies of Canada". The rule is that an article is only filed in the narrowest appropriate categories; the category is then subcategorized in wider categories. Bearcat 05:54, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Request for edit summary

[edit]

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 6% for major edits and 7% for minor edits. (Based on the last 132 major and 150 minor edits outside the Wikipedia, User, Image, and all Talk namespaces.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear inpolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 04:26, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AfD

[edit]

Please do NOT remove AfD tagging. eLNuko 10:06, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is nothing personal. In my opinion this article (Conklin_Shows) does represents company which is not notable and I express this opinion by nominating this article for AfD. Now let Wikipedia community deside its fate. eLNuko 10:54, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

I note that you have added a number of articles to the Toronto category. Before you do so, you should check to make sure that the article is not already in a subcategory of the main Toronto category -- I notice that a number of your recent edits have resulted in just that. Articles should not be included in both the main category and a subcategory. Thanks. Skeezix1000 19:12, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, just pointing out that the correct spelling is indeed endeavor. Cheers, Netsnipe 08:51, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Shoppers Drug Mart Old 1990s Logo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Shoppers Drug Mart Old 1990s Logo.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 09:06, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

See also

[edit]

Hi, there. As you may know, the "See also" section provides an additional list of internal links as a navigational aid, and it should ideally not repeat links already present in the article (see Wikipedia:Guide to layout). For that reason, there is no need to list Expo 67 as a "see also" link in the Canadian Centennial article, given that it is already linked in the body of the short article. Skeezix1000 11:19, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Bank Plaza

[edit]

When you add new information to an article, you should try to avoid marking the edit as being minor. According to Help:Minor edit, minor edits generally imply "trivial changes only, such as typo corrections, formatting and presentational changes and rearranging of text without changing any content." Hope that helps. Skeezix1000 11:41, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please use edit summaries

[edit]

Hello. Please be courteous to other editors and use edit summaries when updating articles. The Mathbot tool shows your usage of edit summaries to be low:

Edit summary usage for Themepark: 33% for major edits and 9% for minor edits. Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace

Using edit summaries helps other editors quickly understand your edits, which is especially useful when you make changes to articles that are on others' watchlists. Thanks and happy editing! --Kralizec! (talk) 16:10, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of political flops

[edit]

Please reread 1993 Chretien face ad before asserting in articles that the ad used a slogan it didn't use: no ad in that election campaign used "Would you trust someone who only speaks out of one side of his mouth?" as a slogan. Whether that was the semiotic subtext of the ad or not, which is a bit of a POV dispute, it wasn't the slogan. Bearcat 06:49, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Efteling logo.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Efteling logo.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hi, just a friendly note to say that I think you may have a difficult time justifying the inclusion of Flyerman in Wikipedia since there is a very weak assertion of notability. The person himself is essentially just an average but quirky Joe; there's nothing notable about him except that he's had a documentary made about him. That makes the documentary more notable than the individual and not every individual who appears in a documentary should have an article in Wikipedia. Maybe an article about the documentary itself would be less likely to be deleted, if, for example, the documentary has received significant critical acclaim, etc. Or maybe it's time to write an article about the director(s), including the information you've placed in the Flyerman article there. Hope this helps. BFD1 22:09, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Flyerman, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. —Pilotguy (ptt) 02:31, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page

[edit]

You will retract your comment from my talkpage immediately or it will be treated as a personal attack. Yes so the image has been edited for artistic purposes and the moon added, so what. It is depicting the Toronto skyline and it does that. I see no better image to replace it with, and the image has quite happily been used for a long time. Many images on Wikipedia have been edited in some way or another. If a building had been removed or added then it would be a different matter, but all someone has done is add an artistic touch of the moon. Ben W Bell talk 08:02, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since you have decided obviously not to remove the comment [1] from my talk page, I have to presume you stand by it. As a result and for this edit [2] I am blocking you for a period of 24 hours for making personal attacks against other Wikipedia users. You are free to return once your block has expired, but if you continue with comments like those in the edit above then you will be blocked again. Ben W Bell talk 09:35, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Toronto

[edit]

Hi there. The photo in question does not have the moon in the north. It's about north-east, with the photo probably taken from the harbour near the island airport. That said, I agree that the moon is probably photoshopped in. The photo is otherwise representative of the skyline. Perhaps keep the skyline picture with a caption notice that the moon is likely added in? I don't really have a major opinion on this and I am fine with your edit. Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:RTL 7 TV Netherlands Logo .gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —♦♦ SʘʘTHING(Я) 12:45, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Air Canada Zip Airlines Logo.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:13, 7 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages such as Image talk:1918eatonssantaclausparade.jpg, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image talk:1918eatonssantaclausparade.jpg|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Octane (talk) 12:35, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This notice is clearly an error. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:54, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A user knowledgeable about the subject. The uploader's talk page would be a good starting point. Octane [improve me] 30.11.07 0506 (UTC)

Or the image's talk page is also a perfectly good place to ask a question about the image. Skeezix1000 (talk) 12:52, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As I've already stated, talk pages for media and mainspace articles are for improving the object in question (this doesn't extend to community pages, like WikiProject talk pages or essays or policy or what-have-you, but moving on). Questions for clarification (i.e. 'can someone explain to me what conservative liberalism is about?') should really go more on project pages or user talk pages. Octane [improve me] 30.11.07 1612 (UTC)
I read policy pages and derive conclusions based on them. You're quite welcome to read them yourself and derive your own conclusions, or even suggest changes or improvements on their respective talk pages, of course. See WP:FORUM for why discussion purely about the image is discouraged. Octane [improve me] 02.12.07 0704 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:TorontoSantaClausParadelogo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Expo67 Montreal - Bob Gimby1967 - Ca-na-da Song.jpg. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Thank you for uploading Image:Maple Leaf Foods logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks for your uploads. You've indicated that the following images are being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why they meet Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page an image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:0 Ontario Pavilion Expo67 - A Place to Stand.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:08, 20 December 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Undead Warrior (talk) 15:08, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know that you got into edit warring with Kdickson and I'm not inviting that! But you have edited it in the past and I would like some opinions on the current state of the article. File permission problem with File:Patty Conklin 1937.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Patty Conklin 1937.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. fetch·comms 02:03, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Expo67 Montreal Hey Friend Say Friend Album Cover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Expo67 Montreal Hey Friend Say Friend Album Cover.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 19:29, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Boingo - your entries on Canadian spying allegations are not supported

[edit]

Your addition to the Boingo Wireless page alleging any part in the CSEC Wi-Fi spying initiative is incorrect. CBC article doesn't make any implication toward Boingo (it names Boingo as a network provider, not a participant), and CSEC documentation actually notes that it was unable to track users on Boingo networks. Please visit Boingo Talk page for specific links and remove your post. X-Gunman (talk) 21:42, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Exterior of Eaton’s College Street Store - Toronto - ca 1930.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Orphaned non-free image File:Swisschaletadvertisement.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Swisschaletadvertisement.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:27, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
