[edit]Should be merged with conurbation. -- Daran 22:49, 3 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Maybe, so long as we combine the titles. Rickyrab 22:50, 3 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- My understanding is that conurbation is the geographical term, while megalopolis is typically used in science fiction. It's possible that this could be a difference between the British and American languages. (I'm in the UK.) My preference would be to put them under conurbation, with megalopolis as a redirect. -- Daran 22:21, 4 Oct 2003 (UTC)
What about Metropolitan area? I don't see much difference among the three articles. -- Taku
- Seems to be slightly different. A conurbation is what you get when two or more metropolitan areas merge. -- Daran 22:21, 4 Oct 2003 (UTC)
What about the ancient Greek city of Megalopolis? -- Jim Redmond 20:50, 3 Nov 2003 (UTC)

[edit]"ἐρημία μεγάλη 'στιν ἡ μεγάλη πόλις" (the big city is a big desert). Does anyone know if this is a reference to this city? Some sources have "ἐρημία μεγάλη 'στιν ἡ μεγαλόπολις", see this —Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.83.180.2 (talk) 21:02, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Sources, please
[edit]In the "History" section there is mention of a description by Herodotus of Megalopolis as the site of the Titanomachy; a source would have to be given for this. I have found nothing in Herodotus on the subject. Pausanias, however, describes Megalopolis as the site of the Gigantomachy, is that what was meant? source: Paus. 8.29.1 In Herodotus there is something about giant bones, but those of Oresthes are meant. source: Hdt. 1.67
Please revise, thank you
