[edit]

It's good to see a few people making changes to the Page. I'm currently a Cadet Under Officer at No. 1 Squadron, and atarted this page (and the New Zealand Cadet Forces page). If you make additions to the page, I'll likely view them to see if they fit in. Of course, I'm not the wealth of all knowledge, so if I'm worng then let me know. - Liberator

Good job!

[edit]

I think you've done a really good job. I've always wondered why NZ ATC didnt have a page, and now it does. Keep it up. (I'm from 48th Squadron, in case you're wondering...)

Helping Out

[edit]

I'm planning to help make this page better sometime this year. I'm planning on joining ATC this year (planning on joining No.30 Squadron). It's good to see that there are other active updaters of this page.

-*- Liberator, just so you know, I am a NZCF PLTOFF in the UK and will help out where poss... I have uploaded the old NZ ATC logo on the main page. I will see if i can get a pdf of the uniforms from 41 SQN. Rollcage06 12:52, 26 November 2007

New Rank Claim

[edit]

The page as at now (23 March 2006 2:48pm NZST) makes a claim of a rank between Under Officer and Pilot Officer. To the best of my knowledge (Being an Under Officer transitioning to Pilot Officer) there is no such rank, with the possible exception of 'Officer Cadet' which is held for the duration of the commissioning course. Until someone can provide some basis for this claim, I will revert the page to the previous version. Liberator 02:50, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

LAC Rank slide error

[edit]

I could be wrong, but the rank slide that has been shown on this page to be that of LAC is not correct to the best of my knowledge. The LAC rank is based on the RNZAF rank, the slide for which features a twin-bladed propellor as per http://www.nzdf.mil.nz/corporate/badges-of-rank/default.htm

Now that we've established this fact, when are you going to upload that fancy shmancy LAC rankslide you made, Liberator? --IR Moon 04:35, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That will be forthcoming, once I work out where I left the images. Either that, or I'll crank out MS paint and try again. Liberator 05:28, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Liberator, I have added a GIF of the LAC rankslide which i created in paint using RNZAF & ATC rankslides as a base and have used this to show my cadets in the UK. Rollcage06 12:46, 26 November 2007

Hijack of Cadet Page

[edit]

Added NZCF, ATC, NZCC and SCC to the entry for Cadet. If it it's good enough for the UK, US and Oz, it's good enough for us --IR Moon 04:55, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Questionable use of the term "Supplementary Instructor"

[edit]

To the best of my knowledge there is a distinct difference between Supplementary Staff and Civilian Instructor and the term "Supplementary Instructor" used on this page seems to me to an inaccurate merging of the two.

A suppstaff member is someone who fills a role within the unit such as stores officer, adj or similar and has been NZCF7 (staff security) cleared. They might fill the role of an instructor but they are infact part of the unit staff. This may be someone who has applied to gain a commission or simply a member of the public willing to give up their time to the unit, but does not seek a Cadet Force commission.

A civilian instructor is someone from outside of the unit that comes in to fulfil a training requirement. This may include guest speakers, aviation nuts, first aid instructors, Mountain Safety Council members etc. They are not a part of the unit and are not necessarily NZCF7 cleared.

I'm prepared to be proven wrong but I've never heard of a Supplementary Instructor before. --IR Moon 05:07, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This was once 'Civilian Instructor' because I remember putting it there. At the time, I wasn't aware of the term 'Supplementary Staff', and was falling back on some international knowledge (Canadians use CIs in place of our SS). Unless anyone has any better ideas, I think it should be 'Supplementary Staff', as in those being NZCF7 cleared. Of course, having never been NZCF7 cleared, I don't know much about it. Liberator 05:33, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Having been there and done that for around a year and a half I can tell you (first hand like) that SupStaff is the correct term :D

Fair use rationale for Image:FLGOFF.GIF

[edit]

Image:FLGOFF.GIF is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Table of NCO ranks is incorrect

[edit]

It incorrectly calls the 'Leading Air Cadet' rank 'Cadet Leading Air Cadet.' Similarly, it calls the LACDT abbreviation CDTLAC. However, I have not been successful in trying to edit this, thus the post here. GunsAndChips (talk) 12:32, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Major Overhaul June 2021

[edit]

History

  • Expanded early years section and added more recent events such as Cadet 150 and the 75th anniversary event in 2016.
  • Added Cadet 2020 event (was a shame I couldn't go).
  • Added images for key events.

Uniform and insignia

  • Added the new ATC shoulder flashing identifier and uniforms table with most uniforms of the NZ ATC (as of me writing this CWD hasn't been introduced).
  • Added Unit recognition patch section.
  • Removed UO rank from the table (as of April 2021 the last UO was sacrificed to the cadet gods).

Activities

  • Expanded all sections to reflect recent activities and changes to the organisations.
  • Added pictures of cadets undertaking referenced pictures.

Local Training

  • Complete overhaul with the introduction of NZCF 170C (C is the cadet model and O is the yet to be publicly released Officer edition). This is the new manual that outlines the training cadets undergo.
  • Added table with each subject taught at each year, and range of lessons per subject.
  • Added the badges received after completing each year level.

Courses

  • Refreshed the courses as some have been disestablished like the UO and W/O course and some have had name changes (Bushcraft=Fieldcraft), side note I've been on both. Besides the new name the Cadet and Officer courses are at the same place but separate. Officer students no longer look after Cadets on the course.
  • Also 'Range Safety Officers' has been renamed 'Range Conducting Officers'

Competitions

  • Added Aviation skills section, including all winners of the area and national competition.
  • Added Davy Memorial Drill summary and table of winners going back to 2001 (I just read off the trophy)
  • Added brief summary of the Lady Islington Trophy (There isn't much info on this even in the 160).
  • Added Wallingford summary and an addendum regarding the misconception that you can only receive marksman in a competition (I believed this for years and
  • I earned the badge!).
  • Added (nearly) complete list of all winners of the Wallingford competition going back to 1968 (Again, read it off the physical trophy).
  • Table with the ATC shooting badges and how to earn them.
  • Added Ffennell Section. Including a picture of my own Ffennell gold medal.

Finally updated a lot of grammar and links, and expanded the "see also" section to include all Air Cadet Organisations the NZ ATC have a relationship with.

If anyone has anything else they want to add. Let me know.

Adding Cadet Working Dress Badge Emblems

[edit]

I have made images of the Cadet Working Dress rank patches that go on the front of Cadet Working Dress. However I have no idea how to update the rank template to add them in. No real rush though. Got until at least August 2021 as due to *Unspecified Virus* ravaging Fiji (where CWDs are manufactured).

Disregard. Figured it out. Majorconvenience (talk) 21:18, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Air Training Corps Association of New Zealand

[edit]

This is not my area. I hope there is someone here that can do this with the care it deserves. I will keep a note to return, if it has been left. My first thought would be to move the very good introduction from the 'Association' page and make a new section. Dushan Jugum (talk) 20:42, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'll happily do it. I made the page so I feel responsible for it. I'll have the two merged within the hour. Majorconvenience (talk) 21:41, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully done? I've never merged and redirected a page before so I'm not sure if it's been done correctly. Majorconvenience (talk) 22:25, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The redirect works fine. The title for the moved hidden table has some strange formatting when it is collapsed. I don't know the problem as I have not formatted tables for years. If there is no problem at your end it might just be my setup. Thanks for all the work. Dushan Jugum (talk) 23:19, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The table is being freaky on my end too. It's happened a few times when I use the visual editor. I'll see if I can fix it. Majorconvenience (talk) 23:24, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ATC Crest

[edit]

What is the correct colour of the bird on the ATC crest? Should it be blue-backed with a russet breast (as in the crest displayed on the page as at 29 Oct 2022) or should it be brown? All recent versions of the crest I've seen in use have had a brown bird. The original RNZAF-ATC crest had a New Zealand sparrowhawk (AKA New Zealand falcon). See here for an example. At some point in time, the New Zealand sparrowhawk on the crest was swapped for a male Eurasian sparrowhawk, with the blue back and russet breast. That was the logo I knew right through the 1980s till the early 1990s. However, since I got involved in the ATC again in 2013 the only crest I've seen in use has had a brown bird. What colour should the bird be officially? TeWaitere (talk) 05:06, 29 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Compulsory military training

[edit]

This article states compulsory military training was abolished in 1958 but that doesn't seem to agree with Compulsory military training in New Zealand. Would be great if someone could clarify what is accurate and make the articles consistent. --Mgp28 (talk) 19:33, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Uniform source

[edit]

The uniform section states that all uniform is issued by the Royal New Zealand Air Force, then later on that it comes from Headquarters New Zealand Cadet Forces. I suspect the latter is true but neither sentence is referenced. Would someone be able to clarify and add a reference for the correct statement? Cheers Mgp28 (talk) 23:33, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
