[edit]The meaning of "Pomodon" can be verified by searching for it in "genera" at http://www.calacademy.org/research/ichthyology/catalog/fishcatmain.asp , which will give the result
Pomodon Boulenger 1895:144 [ref. 537]. Masc. Plectropoma macrophthalmos Tschudi 1846. Type by being a replacement name. Unneeded replacement for Hemilutjanus Bleeker 1876. Objective synonym of Hemilutjanus Bleeker 1876. Hemilutjanus Bleeker 1876. Serranidae.

- Excellent sleuthing! Ironically, Hemilutjanus, which seems to include only the grape-eye seabass H. macrophthalmos, is itself of uncertain position, apparently considered by some [1] to be in the Serranidae not the Lutjanidae. Stan 18:25, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)
GUPPY conversion
[edit]Pomondon was one of the two original GUPPY conversions. The other was USS Odax (SS-484). These conversions were called "GUPPY I", and both boats were later upgraded to "GUPPY II" spec. Unfortunately I don't have much info on the GUPPY I conversion, so I just put the GUPPY II stats in the infobox. If I get more information later I'll try to create a GUPPY I section of the box.
