CIB
[edit]I don't think he could have had the CIB. You must be in the grade of o-6 or lower after 6 Dec 41 to recive this device. He did not take a combat command until 1942 when he had already been promoted to BGEN (o-7) and thus could no longer recive the device. That and in no image is he wearing it.
- In 1991 an exception was made by General Colin Powell, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and General Gordon Sullivan, Army Chief of Staff. When Powell and Sullivan presented him with the CIB, Ridgway said "This is the only decoration that I have ever coveted or ever wanted." Reference: Mitchell, George C. Matthew B. Ridgeway: Soldier, Statesman, Scholar, Citizen. Stackpole Books, 2002. ISBN 0-8117-2294-5, pp. 203-204. Also available online with a photo of Ridgway receiving the CIB at http://books.google.com/books?id=UmcK3N_VFcIC&printsec=frontcover&dq=matthew+ridgway&lr=&as_brr=3&rview=1#PPA203,M1 .
Changed death month from July to March.
[edit]Don't know exactly where to put this. Here is my best guess. Source for change: http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/ridgway.htm
Purple Heart
[edit]Article mentions he was wounded but no purple heart listed in awards. Article has category purple heart recipients. --Brad (talk) 15:07, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Decorations
[edit]Given his high rank in Nato he must have been awarded several grand-crosses in European orders such as the Order of Orange-Nassau. Who knows more? Faithfully yours, Robert Prummel (talk) 14:16, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
Biological warfare
[edit]When General Matthew Ridgway arrived in Paris to take up his position in NATO there were demonstrations, organized by the communists who called him "Ridgway la peste". There was one dead and several people were wounded. The communists had accused him of using biological weapons in Korea. All this may very well be communist desinformation. Who knows more? Robert Prummel (talk) 14:24, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
Legacy
[edit]Some well-meaning contributor has added garbled text to the end of the "Legacy" section of the article, possibly translated word-for-word from the Japanese. Its meaning is not clear. Jperrylsu (talk) 02:21, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Missing Position
[edit]The column at the right never mentions that he was the 2st Supreme Allied Commander of Europe (after Eisenhower).2601:2C1:C003:EF7A:6DA9:E91D:1F34:8B46 (talk) 22:15, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
Simple mistake
[edit]This article states that's ridgeway took command during the Chinese advance. It was the North Korean advance; as the Chinese had not entered the war at this point. Fyi Jeffcrenshaw1 (talk) 09:47, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Spelling
[edit]The article, along with its citations, seems to use both Ridgway and Ridgeway, sometimes interchangeably. I guess that a short comment would be appropriate. 37.190.154.25 (talk) 23:17, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing out those typos; I fixed them. Chris Troutman (talk) 23:48, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
