Licensing
[edit]This image was created and is now in the public domain in the United Kingdom, because its term of copyright has expired. According to the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (c. 48), a reformation of the Copyright Act 1956 (c. 74), images fall into public domain:

|
This image is in the public domain in the United States. In most cases, this means that it was first published prior to January 1, 1929 (see the template documentation for more cases). Other jurisdictions may have other rules, and this image might not be in the public domain outside the United States. See Wikipedia:Public domain and Wikipedia:Copyrights for more details. |
Reasoning for new PD-UK licence:
Newly found sources clearly indicate date of creation and there is no evidence of author, so a 70-year term in the UK is appropriate. If it was an official photo covered by crown copyright the image would have come into the public domain after 50 years.
Old justification for retaining on English Wikipedia:
PD in the US since it was published before 1923. However, no source exists for this image, so until this is fixed, its copyright status cannot be determined in its country of origin (Great Britain). This makes this image incompatible with Commons' rules.
