[edit]I would like to see this list worked into a real article on Biblical epic movies, which form a small subgenre. Biblical epics can be classified as those that are retellings of portions of the Bible, such as the Ten Commandments, vs. those that are more like "intersections" with the Bible, such as Ben Hur or the Robe. The article could also cover the issue of faithfulness to the text, with some of the controversy among Christians (and presumably Jews) about the faithfulness of the Ten Commandments being the quintessential example.
I also believe the list would be more interesting if it were chronological rather than alphabetical.
Note that the TNT series of Biblical epics had about six movies I believe, and the producers went on to separately produce several others, including Solomon, Jeremiah, and Esther. I believe they made ten altogether and then produced the Jesus miniseries for CBS.
- That sounds great. I created the list as part of Lists of movie source material but if you feel the topic deserves a narrative article, by all means, go ahead and write one up. As for chronology vs. alphabet: Knock yosef out. :) jengod 18:39, Apr 7, 2004 (UTC)
Alright, since this article has obviously been dormant for a while I'm taking it upon myself to rework it into a a comprehensive resource, like I'v already done with King Arthur movies, Classical Mythology movies, and Greek mythology films.
As you might have guessed from the cotents pages, I am attempting to reorganize this list into sections in the approximate order in which they occur in the Bible. On the second level, they are arange in chronological order - thus, even though A Nativity narrative might come before a Passion narrative in the gospels, a "Passion" movie made in 2004 would come before a Nativity movie made 2006.
I would appreciate any contributions or critiques--Dudeman5685 21:09, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Different title needed
[edit]This list should either be renamed to something totally different, or limited to films based on the Bible, i.e. films using stories in the Bible as their source. Currently it's a mishmash of Biblical themes and stories about early Christians. I bumped into it when doing some re-editing of the Quo Vadis? (1985 TV mini-series), which definitely doesn't fit in, nor does any other of the Quo Vadis films, as they are based on Quo Vadis (novel) from 1895 and not on the Bible. Evan Almighty
[edit]Does "Evan Almighty" really belong here?--74.167.7.205 (talk) 01:06, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Missing Movie
[edit]Why is Jesus Christ Superstar missing from this list? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nadinebrm (talk • contribs) 01:15, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- Also, despite its controversy, the Monty Python film Life of Brian does feature a straight depiction of the Sermon on the Mount. The rest of the film is satire, and Jesus does not appear again, but the fact he is depicted giving the speech (and while some reactions are played for comedy, Jesus is depicted straight), might make it eligible for the Misc section, if nothing else. 68.146.52.234 (talk) 04:17, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
Does "The Poor Ones in the Paradise (2005)" really exist?
[edit]I tried a regular web search and a search at imdb.com and both yielded nothing. Please, add some reference. Otherwise, it should be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by George Rodney Maruri Game (talk • contribs) 17:12, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
