[edit]Tsja - is there a local name (or names - both positive and negative?) for the particular flavor of revival style Cuypers used? It's more or less Gothic revival, but with those wonderful contextual additions that make 19th century architecture so nationalistic and fun in Europe and so - hmmmm - arbitrary in America (we didn't have any logic behind our revival styles - it was whatever the patron wished to emulate). --MichaelTinkler — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rmhermen (talk • contribs) 13:54, 13 November 2001 (UTC)
The style of the Rijksmuseum is a combination of Gothic revival and Renaissance revival(?) (neo-gotiek and neo-renaissance in Dutch). The protestants were not to happy with the gothic elements, because the referred to catholicism. They called the building ironically the 'episcopal palace'. --Tsja — Preceding unsigned comment added by Conversion script (talk • contribs) 15:43, 25 February 2002 (UTC)
Perhaps a explanation of what Rijk stands for should be included. Something like national, right? --rmhermen —Preceding undated comment added 13:54, 13 November 2001 (UTC)
Rijk means something like realm. Koninkrijk means kingdom. Keizerrijk means empire ruled by an emperor (Ceasar --> keizer). It shares roots with the German word Reich. Rijksbegroting means budget of the national government and "Werken voor het Rijk' means working for a national government agency such as a ministery. --GQEQR — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.56.206.141 (talk) 23:16, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Is there really only one Rijksmuseum in the Netherlands?
S. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.168.172.202 (talk) 09:51, 24 September 2002 (UTC)
- Actually, no. There are several other ones, such as the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden and the Rijksmuseum Volkenkunde, both in Leiden. However, the name of the one in Amsterdam is simply Rijksmuseum, nothing more and nothing less. Jeronimo —Preceding undated comment added 09:56, 24 September 2002 (UTC)
Time
[edit]Im not fan of art, so what would be an average amount of time somebody would take to observe the Rijks bakerboy4 —Preceding undated comment added 00:29, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- A single observation can be carried out in approximately 0.01 seconds, depending on your visual stimulus limit. Walking through it would take about three hours ;o).--MWAK 16:47, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
I saw this category : Category:Art_museums_and_galleries_in_Amsterdam

Rijksmuseum Schiphol
[edit]Both the German and Dutch wikipedia pages say there is, or at least was, an annex of the Rijksmuseum in Schiphol Airport. Ideally this article would explain; was it just a temporary exhibition, or a regular thing? I can't find anything about it on the Rijksmuseum's own website. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 12:36, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- I think it lasts until the renovation is finished which lasts years longer than planned. By the way, during the renovation the museum visitors have to pay the full entrance price while only a small portion of the collection can be seen. I wonder why that is not in the article. Requested move

The result of the move request was: page moved. Rough but clear consensus to move and also to destination, and rightly so, even my Dutch friends don't expect me to have heard of any of the others. Andrewa (talk) 18:13, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
Rijksmuseum Amsterdam → Rijksmuseum – Relisted. Vegaswikian (talk) 06:22, 19 December 2011 (UTC) Per WP:COMMONNAME. I have already moved Rijksmuseum to Rijksmuseum (disambiguation) and put a hatnote on this article. This is a clear cut case, Most people will think of this museum when seeing the word Rijksmuseum, other Rijksmuseums have an expanded title, e.g. Rijksmuseum van Oudheden. British Museum doesn't give a list of all museums which have the phrase British museum in their name. BTW for visiting Dutch Wikipedians what I am proposing is known on Dutch wiki as the "Amsterdam-constructie". SpeakFree (talk)(contribs) 00:31, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- Comment I have moved the list article back from the " (disambiguation)" title. If needed, it should be moved to a "List of ..." title -- it is not a disambiguation page currently. -- JHunterJ (talk) 15:15, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- Done I have moved Rijksmuseum to List of Rijksmuseums. SpeakFree (talk)(contribs) 11:41, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- Rename to Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. I would suggest that Rijksmuseum should became a redirect to that, and it should have a hatnote pointing to a dab or list article. No strong views on its name. Peterkingiron (talk) 22:52, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not for that. There is no confusion about the location of the museum, people who have heard of the Rijksmuseum generally know that it is located in Amsterdam. There are other Rijksmuseums but those never carry only the name Rijksmuseum. Anyways most people searching for Rijksmuseum will be looking for the museum in Amsterdam and that is why this article should be named Rijksmuseum just like the article Michael Jackson is about the pop singer even though there are many other people with the same name on Wikipedia (e.g. Michael Jackson (writer). SpeakFree (talk)(contribs) 11:58, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
(relisted)
- Rename - Neutral as to target -- List of Rijksmuseums deals with the dab-issue. The present title (without a comma) is certainly wrong, but I am newutral as to whether the article should be at Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam or just Rijksmuseum. Whichever it is the other should be a redirect to it; the article should have a hatnote for the list article. Peterkingiron (talk) 14:46, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
- Support. This "Rijksmuseum" is widely-enough known to be titled without adding Amsterdam. Dohn joe (talk) 17:48, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
- Rename per nom. If this is the primary topic for the term (and judging by List of Rijksmuseums it certainly seems that way), we should go by the most common name for the museum. Since the museum is most commonly known simply as Rijksmuseum, that's the name we should use. A hatnote will direct someone looking for another museum to the list article. Jafeluv (talk) 00:59, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
- Support, seems to be the common name, and this is the clear primary topic for "Rijksmuseum".--Kotniski (talk) 12:24, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

The Bridal Couple
[edit]I recently got my hands on a portrait. F35. Rembrandt The Bridal Couple, 20-24 It also has pencil markings on the back It seems like the painting is on canvas and the frame is aged wood, ivory color with detail
How do I know what this painting is worth, if anything.
Thank you,

- I'd suggest taking it to an expert. It's 99.999% likely to be a fake and/or reproduction, and they'll be able to tell you within seconds of seeing it.62.12.14.24 (talk) 13:58, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

Established: 31 May 1800 19 November 1798
[edit]The decision to establish the national museum dates from 19 November 1798. The opening of the museum (in the first building: Huis ten Bosch)) was on 31 May 1800, which is a different thing. This information is from the article itself, so I'm feeling free to correct this in the infobox. --oSeveno (User talk) 09:37, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
