[edit]Should this be called River Tryweryn? Every other river article is called "River ...", but Tryweryn is Welsh so maybe the proper name would be Afon Tryweryn? I don't think is has an English name, unlike River Dee, Wales (Afon Dyfrdwy).

New Article
[edit]Now known as Canolfan Tryweryn, the national white water centre should really have a wiki page. However I'm not going to remove this article as it refers specifically to the river.DevAnubis 17:41, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- Finished Canolfan Tryweryn yesterday, and I am planing to merge the two articles as it practically makes this one redundant. DevAnubis 12:50, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- Good idea, especially seeing as the info is duplicated across the two. However, you could argue that there are other aspects of the rather which do not relate to whitewater, adding them to the Canolfan Tryweryn page would not make sense (for example, our friends the fishermen or birdwatchers :) ). Maybe Afon Tryweryn should be reduced to a stub, with a link to Canolfan Tryweryn? Jamsta 13:19, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- Another Idea I had would be to merge the two under "The Tryweryn" with two main sections, Canolfan Tryweryn (which is actually the name of the centre) and Afon Tryweryn, with details about the river. And then direct everything to this one page. Oh and thanks for getting back to me so quickly! DevAnubis 13:22, 8 September 2006 (UTC) EDIT: bulleted conversation, I find it's easier to read. Afon Tryweryn proposed merge
[edit]DevAnubis -thanks for your note re the suggested merger. Sorry but I don't think that would be a good idea, so for the record ,I oppose the merger. Many reasons not least that all the other significant Welsh rivers have their own discrete articles but - much more that - each River articles can and should cover a host of sub topics - geology, geo-morphology, habitat, riparian zones, ecology, power generation, river regulation, fisheries, social history, pollution, economy etc. etc. whilst Canolfan Tryweryn just relates solely to the recreational use by Kayak and Raft . For the record I have had a professional input into Canolfan Tryweryn and have made use of its facilities so I'm not just a river freak! Mrs Trellis 16:39, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- I'm a season ticket holder there and try my best to paddle there most weekends. I agree that the river should keep it's own page. And now that I think of it, it would actually be a better idea to just update Afon Tryweryn a little so that it links nicely to Canolfan Tryweryn and then do the same for CT, so that the description of the river is listed as main page: Afon Tryweryn. I'll get to work! DevAnubis 16:45, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- I don't want to duplicate the three descriptions of the river sections, should they go here or on Canolfan Tryweryn? Personally I think here. Also, I'm thinking of maybe scrapping the CT page, redirecting searched for it to Afon Tryweryn and then adding the canolfan centre details, keeping it in one page. Yes, No? The Tryweryn
[edit]I am proposing a "merged" page titles "The Tryweryn" encompassing all references to the river Tryweryn (although it will be referred to as Afon Tryweryn to keep with the Welsh river's theme). See my Sandbox for the draft. 18:30, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- Completely scraped the merged page, instead left Canolfan Tryweryn mostly as it was, and simply sub-sectioned Afon Tryweryn for water sports.
- Looks good - excellent call ! I'll try and find some-time to put the other "rivery" things into the Afon Tryweryn article. Mrs Trellis 19:09, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- I'm probably going to be up at the Tryweryn at some point in the next fortnight so I'll try and get a couple of pics of the rapids (especially mill falls!). but i don't really want ot over full it. maybe one of mill falls, chapel falls, and the ski jump. those are the main features. although arguably all the ones listed in Canolfan Tryweryn are main..., meh. we'll see.
Content
[edit]Perhaps this article should concentrate more on the controversy and pain caused by the damming of this river in the 1960s, than its current usage as a yuppie leisure facility. --MacRusgail (talk) 14:50, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Good coverage of the issues relating to the damming of the river on Llyn Celyn page - probably more appropriate page than on Afon Trweryn page. Tim P (talk) 20:13, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
