Panama Railway station at Culebra Summit

1855 – The first train travels the entire transcontinental route of the Panama Railway (pictured).^[1]
1861 – Daniel Willard, president of Baltimore and Ohio Railroad 1910-1941, is born (d. 1942).
1935 – Pennsylvania Railroad inaugurates electrified train service featuring its newly acquired GG1 electric locomotives between Washington, D.C., and New York City on the line that will come to be known as the Northeast Corridor.^[2]^[3]
1962 – The last lines of streetcars in Washington, D.C., end operations.^[2]^[3]
