Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Like (preposition)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

  • This article was on Vfd several weeks ago, viewed as a dic-def, and it never got deleted. However, it recently got expanded to be greater than a dic-def. With the current status of this article, what votes will it get?? Any comments?? 66.245.90.177 14:05, 14 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Current version is an expanded dicdef. This will be an excellent Wiktionary article. Rossami 14:46, 14 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. Transwiki to Wiktionary assuming someone wants to. Andrewa 17:57, 14 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep/Expand. Discuss the source of this usage "like" and mention criticisms of this usage of "like". EmRick 22:59, 14 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. This is no longer like a dictionary definition, it is more like a short article on an aspect of English usage. I don't like it much. I thought the canonical phrasing for a simile was "As... so..." not "like." As in "As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when the meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, so up to the housetop his coursers they flew, with a sack full of toys, and Saint Nicholas, too!" (When you're similing, the whole world similes with you). Dpbsmith 01:28, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • It is even larger now; it is an article with 3 sections. 66.245.5.173 23:56, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • If we're going to have any articles on words, 'like' is a good one to have - its usage is expanding in interesting, if annoying, ways. -Seth Mahoney 19:29, Jun 16, 2004 (UTC)
  • Like what's this doing in a encyclopedia, man? My teacher says if i need, like, a word, I should look in like a dictionary or something. Like delete, eh? Denni 17:09, 2004 Jun 17 (UTC)
